HumaniTerra launched the National reconstructive surgery and burn centre in the PREAH KOSSAMAK hospital (also known as the “hospital des bonzes”) in Phnom-Penh, Cambodia. This program, months in the making is carried out in partnership with the Cambodia Health Ministry, and with the support of VEOLIA Environnement, L’OREAL foundation and SOLUCOM foundation.
The program will set up a reconstructive surgery unit in the KOSSAMAK hospital allowing free, professional and sustainable care for the locals: training and strengthening local surgeons' capabilities, operating theatre equipment, care missions, hospital organization and management.
In the next few months, the first missions shall focus on care and the strengthening of local surgeons’ capabilities to help the Cambodian teams until the opening of the national centre. The initial consultations, that have already started, will detect patients with burn sequelae or deformities, who will be operated on by Cambodian surgeons with the help of HumaniTerra surgeons. The capacity building program will also include the anaesthetist and nurses.
