THE RECONSTRUCTION OF THE “NATIONAL NURSING SCHOOL” OF PORT AU PRINCE
Bolstered by our knowledge of care facilities reconstruction in Afghanistan and in Cambodia, Haiti’s Public Health and Population Ministry entrusted us to rebuild the “National Nursing School” which collapsed during the earthquake, killing a large amount of student nurses and teachers. We have also been asked to train operating theatre nurses and nurse anaesthetist.
HumaniTerra International inaugurated in 2011 the new “National Nursing School of Port au Prince” (ENIP): a 1000 m² prefabricated, movable, modular, anti-seismic and anti-cyclonic training centre (build of refurbished shipping containers) that welcomes 300 students.

Training specialized nurses: Well before the earthquake, there was a severe shortage of paramedics specialized in anaesthetics and operating theatre nurses, which made surgeons work difficult. In Port au Prince’s University’ Hospital, HumaniTerra trains and strengthens operating theatre nurses and nurse anaesthetists, it also is ensuring the training of two head-nurses who will be in charge of specialized training and following up the program.
THE CREATION OF MOBILE SURGICAL BOOTHS FORT HAITI’ STATE UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL
Thanks to its pioneering idea, HumaniTerra is producing mobile surgical booths allowing two simultaneous operations. These high aseptic surgical booths are built on refurbished, movable and modular shipping containers. This solution will allows Port au Prince’s University Hospital to swiftly offer once again surgical facilities in optimal conditions, while waiting for the final global restructuration that will take several more years.
